Ferrari, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz to Announce ‘iOS in the Car’ Integration Next Week

Apple’s iOS in the Car integration will soon expand to models from luxury automobile makers Ferrari, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, reports the Financial Times. The announcement will be made at next week’s Geneva Motor Show according to sources and will allow drivers to use Apple Maps, Siri and other iOS features:

The official announcement of Apple’s deal will be made at next week’s Geneva Motor Show, sources told the Financial Times. A number of other manufacturers are expected to incorporate it into models in 2014. Apple, and the carmakers declined to comment

Drivers will be able to use Apple Maps as in-car navigation, as well as listen to music and watch films. Calls can be made through the system, which will tie into the Siri voice recognition platform so that messages can be read to the driver who can respond by dictating a reply.

Since Siri ‘Eyes Free’ was announced back at WWDC 2012, numerous automakers have pledged to integrate the voice assistant into their vehicles. Last spring Ferrari announced their in-car entertainment would expand to include iPad mini units as the centrepiece of the car. Apple executive Eddy Cue joined Ferrari’s board of directors in the fall of 2012.

Earlier this year images leaked of Apple’s iOS in the Car, detailing the use of Apple Maps right into console displays.
