Alleged Redesigned Apple USB Power Adapter Surfaces in New Image [PIC]

A user on Weibo has shared an images of a redesigned Apple USB power adapter, with a new rounded design.

The leaked image shows a design similar to Apple’s current USB power adapter in Australia, hinting that the same design could make its way over to Canada and the United States. The new adapter is slightly wider than the current model, with notches on either side allowing for a more comfortable grip when handling the device.

It is still unclear why Apple would transition to a slightly larger USB adapter, however it is possible that they are planning to increase the charger’s capacity above 5 watts for the larger battery rumoured to be included in the iPhone 6.

The new USB power adapter could ship alongside Apple’s rumoured new lightning cable with a reversible USB connector. Leaked images show the USB connector is now attached in the middle of the metal casing, allowing it to be reversible. The new connectors could ship to match the forthcoming USB 3.1 (Type-C) technology.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 6 at a media event rumoured for September 9. The company’s next-generation smartphone is rumoured to come in two display sizes, a 4.7-inch model and a 5.5-inch model.

Both devices are rumoured to include the A8 CPU and come in at 6 millimetres thick. The 4.7-inch model is expected to ship this fall alongside the public release of iOS 8, with the 5.5-inch model expected to arrive towards the end of the year.
