Apple to Unveil ‘New Wearable’ at iPhone 6 Media Event on Sept. 9 Says Re/code [u]

Re/code’s well-connected John Paczkowski is at it again—this time he is revising his previous rumour of Apple’s rumoured October ‘iWatch’ launch,

now saying it will debut at the company’s September 9 iPhone 6 media event:

Remember back in June when I said Apple hoped to schedule a special event in October to show off a new wearable device? Remember how I also said this: “Could things change between now and fall? That’s certainly possible.” Turns out that was a prescient hedge, because things have changed. Apple now plans to unveil a new wearable alongside the two next-generation iPhones we told you the company will debut on September 9th. (Funny “joke,” Gruber.)

Paczkowski predicts the device will utilize Apple’s HealthKit and HomeKit platforms and says media event invites should be coming any day now. As for that rumoured October event, he says he believes it’s still on.

Back in June, the WSJ reported the rumoured Apple wearable device would come in multiple sizes and pack over 10 sensors on board.

This is going to be a crazy September for Apple. Time to get your wallet ready, again and again and again.

Update: According to the Financial Times, this device won’t be called the iWatch:

As people familiar with the situation have indicated to the Financial Times and others, this year’s hot new product will be a wearable device that tracks fitness and allows remote control of a tethered smartphone. Sources say the device is in fact unlikely to be called the iWatch, despite Apple having filed to trademark that term last year.

So much hype for the iWatch, or whatever they’ll call it, it might be difficult not to be disappointed. However Apple has surprised us more than once.
