Apple’s iPhone 6 Launches in Canada to Long Lines and More [PICS]

Well, that was fast wasn’t it? Today marks the official launch of Apple’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models in Canada and 8 other countries including the U.S.

People started waiting in line since Wednesday for the iPhone 6 at Apple Stores, while some were dominated by resellers.

It remains to be seen, after so many iPhone launches, whether the Rogers, Bell, and Telus systems can handle the stress. Some of them (Rogers’ and Bell’s) have failed in the past, so . . .

As for online iPhone 6 pre-orders made via Apple’s website, UPS has started to deliver them already on launch day. Our package is scheduled to arrive today.

How has your iPhone 6 launch day been so far? Did you get your iPhone 6 today?

No new updates, phone calls, or emails from Bell here. Was there any point in pre-ordering through these guys? At this point it doesn’t seem so.

Not surprised. I used to buy through contract years ago….haven’t been on contract for 4 years now. I only buy direct from Apple (non-contract, unlocked). I only have my Bell plan to pay on a month to month. This is ideal and I would suggest the same for you. In the end you will pay more going through contract. There’s an article on this site that explains the advantages of buying outright.

I got an email from rogers yesterday that my phone has shipped and a tracking #. I tracked it and it says it will be delivered by the end of today at my local rogers store. Good luck. Hopefully you will get an email soon.

hmm, seems like most Rogers customers who ordered the 6+ will have to wait. I ordered a grey 6+ 64gig order #131 and I won’t be getting it today. Has anyone here ordered a 6+ from rogers and is receiving theirs today?

Can someone confirm that the “Reserve and in-store pickup” is working. I pre-ordered on the 12th but I’ve only received 1 email from apple saying that my iPhone is reserve at my local Apple store. I heard we were supposed to get a 2nd email with a barcode to pick it up which I did not receive 🙁 I’m scheduled for pickup later today (5pm). Thanks

The barcode email is US only from what I’ve read. They actually pay for it up front and use the bar code to go in and pick it up.

For us and the rest of the launch countries, you just reserve and pay for it in-store.

I drove to Fairview at 8:15 this morning too see how things are. Their parking lots are closed until 10am with a gate. Had to park in the multiple stories car park which was jammed so I left.

I guess if yours was pre-ordered, you are safe. But by the time I figure out there was pre-order for ISPU (which was the first time Apple had offered it), the pre-order site was down already.

That only works for people wanting to sign a new contract (on those insane new tariffs) or on an approved legacy plan for renewal (usually $80+ per month). Those not wanting to give up good plans, don’t have that as an option.

I had a reservation placed and they didn’t give me a call or anything I just walked in telling them that I had a reservation for a 6. They told me that they didn’t have the reservation ones but stock was plentiful and that they could just replace my reservation model for one of their stock ones. I could choose any colour and any amount of storage because they had it. The man working there told me the speakers they give are a sort of apology for not getting the devices to us on launch day

Here’s a basic summary of my first apple preorder experience EVER!
Friday Sept 12th
1:30am – Preorder iPhone6 64G Silver(wanted gold), thought I could in store pick up.
2:00am – Reserved iPhone6 64G Gold for pick up at Guildford Friday Sept 19th 10am
Friday Sept 19th
9:45am – Show up at Apple Store and no one in reservation lineup. Greeted, reso confirmed and whisked away to get my iPhone.
9:55am – New nano sim and a quick change to my rogers account to update the sim.
10:00am – walked out with my new iPhone 6 🙂
12:15pm – UPS just dropped off my other iPhone.
Also while in Guildford, dropped by the Ghost Armour kiosk and got a screen protector. Because I was the first customer they gave it to me for free and I just had to pay $10 for the labour.
Pretty much went as smoothly as I could have hoped for. Big ups to Gary and the rest of the iphoneincanada team for all the information and tips.

The line at Pacific Centre in Vancouver was great until morning. I lined up at 8pm last night the 18th… The morning of the 19th, every Chinese person in front of me (about 100) invited 5 family members each to cut in front of us so we went from definitely getting a phone to no chance in hell. 100 people in front of us to about 500 in the span of a few hours. It was rude and very aggravating to say the least. I was told that because the phone wasn’t releasing in China that they were sending them there and also selling them at near 2X the price on Craigslist. Nice people huh?

Alright, so at Coquitlam Centre they were all sold out, they told me to go to the Apple website tonight and at 12:00 am I have a chance to reserve the iPhone of my choice, let’s say I do reserve the iPhone I want, are they going to keep that one iPhone reserved for me or are they going to give it to the people that are in line that also have reservations? If this was confusing, I just want to ask if I reserve an iPhone and the store gets a shipment, that iPhone will be there for me when I go to pick it up right?

Reserve for instore pickup is live again. Some stores grey’d out (maybe in time zones where stock hasn’tbeen confirmed for tomorrow)?

https:// reserve.cdn-apple DOT com/CA/en_CA/reserve/iPhone/availability

You’ll need to fix the URL.. remove the space between // and reserve and replace DOT with . Did it to get past URL screening. Very likely no 6+’s out there but good luck!

Just wanted to say a HUGE HUGE thank you to DaveMcG and Yoo for this tip.
I originally tried to pre-order a gold 6+ right when it opened, but was bummed that by the time it added to cart it was already 3-4 weeks, so it wouldn’t even have mattered that I stayed up.

Saw Yoo and Dave’s post and decided to give reserving a shot. Was expecting at most a regular 6, but low and behold, managed to grab one 6+ in Gold. Crazy.

Big props to you both

Apple sucks. I got an iPhone 6 on day one, and nothing buy frustration. I tried to restore it from an iTunes backup of my 5S and it gave me an error that the backup was either corrupted or incompatible. So just tried icloud and that took so long it seemed it wasn’t working at all. At one point it got stuck with many apps ‘waiting’ and nothing actually loading. I called tech support and they said I should erase it and start the process again. I did that and it still went super slow. Finally I figured out that if I back up to iTunes from my half restored phone, then restore from that backup it will load the apps from iTunes rather than the cloud and it finally worked in about 15 minutes, but this is after struggling with it from about 12pm to 9pm and wasting a whole day of productivity. (I had paid work I could and should have been doing, but I needed my phone to work by the next day and at the rate it was restoring it wouldn’t be ready until the iPhone 7). Then finally after getting it working I noticed a slightly darker area on the screen – like a smudge but nothing I can wipe away – near the sleep wake button. I called apple and after 40 minutes on the phone the guy wanted to change me for an advance replacement because my apple care didn’t get registered by the carrier yet. I asked to speak to a supervisor and got it resolved, though I need to send back the phone with original box and all accessories so they can ‘capture’ it and figure out what went wrong in manufacturing.
Long story long, to make this phone work I’ve spent 9 hours working on the computer (many of those also on the phone with tech supprt), then another hour plus dealing with getting a replacement set up, and when it arrives next week I still need to deal with it further. Not exactly the ‘easy’ experience apple likes to pretend they are.

Try on a day when tons of people aren’t trying to do the same thing and the experience might be different. Doing this on the release weekend is bound to be slow. As for your backup… I would have gone back to the 5S and tried making a new backup.
