Chinese carriers have officially started accepting iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders today, and there is a tremendous demand in the country, according to the first numbers revealed today.
Three of the country’s largest carriers, China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom, have taken 1 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders in just six hours, according to Tencent News (via Fortune).
Apple’s Chinese website and another 6,700 authorized resellers have also started taking pre-orders today.
The high demand for Apple’s latest handsets is noteworthy: Before the official pre-orders kicked off, the same players were said to have accepted 9 million reservations, a kind of “pre-order for the pre-order.”
The new display size of the iPhone 6 is appealing to Chinese customers, and the sizes appear to be in balance, although there is a slightly higher demand for the iPhablet, as the numbers shared by JingDong reveal:
– iPhone 6: 4,542,448
– iPhone 6 Plus: 4,694,853
Apple sold 10 million iPhone 6 units in just 72 hours of availability in 10 countries, and since then it has launched the devices in more than 20 additional countries. In China, the official launch is scheduled for October 17.
