Apple Said to Add Pegatron as iPhone 6 Plus Assembly Partner

Apple’s long-time assembly partner Pegatron is benefitting from high iPhone 6 demand. While Pegatron is said to already be handling iPhone 6 assembly, due to high demand, it is now preparing to expand production capacity and even handle some of the iPhone 6 Plus assembly.

According to sources speaking to United Daily News and cited by Nikkei, Apple is struggling to meet iPhone 6 demand, despite reportedly splitting orders between three suppliers: Foxconn, Pegatron and Wistron. Foxconn is said to be responsible for about 80% of all iPhone 6 orders, while Pegatron receives 18% and Wistron handles the rest.

While this could be just speculation, fact is that Pegatron Chief Executive Officer Jason Cheng told investors that his company expects to end the year with $200 million in capital expenditure, while this figure will rise to $300 million.

Since the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple has been struggling to meet demand across the globe. The issue seems to be with the iPhone 6 Plus supply, as there is a backlog of 3–4 weeks on a global scale. The regular iPhone 6, however, is available to ship in up to 10 business days.

We hope that by adding more assembly partners, Apple can finally catch up with iPhone 6 Plus demand.
