Apple Allegedly in Acquisition Talks with Lit Motors

Following the Financial Times’ report of Apple negotiating with British luxury car maker McLaren for possible takeover or strategic investment, the New York Times reports that Apple is also interested in acquiring an automotive startup called Lit Motors.

The company is worth far less than McLaren, as it has so far raised only $2.2 million for its project, but what makes Lit Motors noteworthy is its concept of the future of transportation and the results it has achieved.

As detailed by TechCrunch, Lit Motors held an impressive demo in the Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Disrupt SF back in 2012. They presented a new kind of electric vehicle – in this case a motorcycle – with a few tricks, such as using gyroscopes to prevent it from tipping it over.

Apple has allegedly been working on its car project for several years now and has made some important hires, and the rumour mill has been busy spilling out information regarding this specific project.

By acquiring Lit Motors, Apple could enhance its team of hundreds of engineers and designers with the startup’s talent, which has already had a vehicle they proposed to sell by 2014. Well, this didn’t materialize for some reason.
