Twitch Rolls Out New Live Streaming Features, Dark Mode for Mobile App

Twitch announced today a facelift for its mobile app — on both iOS and Android — as well as a suite of new features aimed to improve discovery and functionality, reads a new report from TechCrunch.

“Since the IRL community on Twitch has been exploding over the last year, supporting them with a great first-party product was our priority,” explains Tom Robertson, Senior Director of Product Management at Twitch.

“As our creators continue to innovate with their content, we’ll be looking to support them in more ways. We also have some cool things in development that will be rolling out later this year,” he teases.

The changes, which were highly requested by community members, according to Twitch, are beginning to roll out today and will be widely available by July.

The new interface has a bottom tab bar with three pages – Live, Pulse, and Browse. There are also new swipe motions for selecting new videos, returning to previous streams, accessing playlists, and so on.

The new app comes with a dark mode, as well as loads of new features and improvements such as Instant Playlist (a collection of content accessible by swiping down on the screen) and Language Ranking (featured streams organized based on certain languages and regions).

Pulse is Twitch’s new content recommendation and discovery feed, so make sure to take full advantage of it if you want to find streams that better fit your tastes. The new notifications system is supposedly matching the desktop experience, too.
