Following the leak of iOS 11 GM, more has been revealed regarding Apple’s upcoming iPhones, and now we may have the names of the company’s next flagship device, as unearthed by developer Steve Troughton-Smith on Twitter.
This morning, Steve T-S tweeted “…and we now have the name of all three new iPhones. Are you ready for this?”
Then he posted:
iPhone 8
iPhone 8 Plus
iPhone X
If this is indeed true, Apple may be calling its tenth anniversary smartphone iPhone X, while we would finally see an “S” moniker skipped this year, with iPhone 7/7 Plus models jumping right to iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
Last night, a leak of iOS 11 GM revealed features for iPhone X such as a True Tone display, Face ID, new AirPods, new Apple Watch and more.
We may not know the final naming schemes until Apple’s special event on Tuesday, but right now if iOS 11 GM is to be believed, all signs point to iPhone X with Face ID.

Is the iOS 11 GM out in the wild yet?
If the leaks are accurate, they should really call them the iPhone 6sss and 6sss Plus – because they still look like the iPhone 6 & 6 Plus.
On the other hand, I’m glad it’s iPhone X and not iPhone Edition.
So the iPhone 5 should be called the iPhone 4sss because it looks exactly the same as the 4 and 4s except the size is bigger. This statement is so stale now.
Well the 4 & 4s were beautiful phones. The 5 was different enough to not be quite as beautiful – the proportions just weren’t as nice- much taller, thinner, lighter, different screen resolution, panels on the back… It’s as if they took a Porsche, and made it into a stretch limo. Still looked alright, but not as nice as it was before it was stretched. I think it was different enough to call it an iPhone 5. Then came the ugly years – iPhone 6, 6s, 7, 8… I think the X is the first phone that could legitimately be called an iPhone 7.
So really for you it’s not about the 6 and 7 “not changing design” because you admit the 4 and 5 look the same— it’s about how you don’t like the design of the 6 and 7 and that’s where your anger stems from. Fair enough, just say that.
Who’s angry? Maybe you’re projecting. I’m just disappointed that Apple stagnated so long on one of the least appealing iPhone designs. At least now they are finally trying something different with the X. And where did I say the 4 and 5 look the same? Most phones look pretty similar from a distance – but I could tell the 4 and 5 apart a mile away.
Ugh you contradict yourself. You may not have liked the design but many others do. I myself have liked the design. What’s truly different about this new one? The front lacks bezels, the back looks similar to the rest.
Not sure what you see as a contradiction – but let me try to explain my original comment. Apple had a pattern of changing the styles of their iPhones every two years. So the 3G and the 3Gs looked similar, the 4 and 4s looked similar the 5 and 5s looked similar, the 6 and 6s looked similar. See the pattern? So when the 7 came out, there were a lot of comments and articles about Apple breaking this pattern because the 7 looked pretty much like the 6s – I think most 6 and 6s cases would even fit it. So, it’s as if they made an iPhone 6ss. And now the iPhone 8 leaks look very similar as well, so hence my little joke that it should be called the 6sss. I don’t like the design, and you do – but that’s beside the point. I’m just saying they finally went back to changing the style with the iPhone X after an unusually long time.
The 4/4s and the 5/5s are identical out side of the size difference and the glass back.
I like the name “iPhone X” better than any of the other options that were bandied about. This is meant to be a celebratory version of the iPhone in honour of its tenth anniversary. Calling it iPhone Pro or iPhone 8 etc just didn’t seem to capture the significance of this particular iteration of the iPhone.
iPhone X, sounds like a plan.
