Uber Preps UberEATS Launch in Vancouver

While the NDP government takes its time to implement ridesharing in British Columbia, Uber already has plans underway to bring UberEATS to Vancouver, the province’s biggest city.

Dan Mark, Canada’s UberEATS General Manager, told The Vancouver Sun,“UberEATS would bring a convenient and reliable way for people in Vancouver to get the food they love at Uber speed, open up new economic opportunities for delivery partners to use their vehicles or bikes to earn, and enable local businesses to connect with more customers.” The launch of UberEATS in Vancouver is pegged to debut in the next few weeks.

Uber will be on the search for UberEATS drivers at the Hampton Inn & Suites on Robson Street all next week. Those looking to apply will require to bring a valid driver’s license, proof of work eligibility, an owner’s certificate of insurance and vehicle licence, plus a driving record of the past three years, along with two pieces of identification for a criminal background check.

Vancouver already has a bunch of food delivery services such as Just Eat, Foodora, Lazy Meal and Skip the Dishes, so UberEATS is joining a competitive market.

UberEATS is available in various Canadian cities such as Toronto, Ottawa, and most recently Montreal this past spring. This summer UberEATS joined forces with McDonald’s to deliver fast food from 187 locations across Canada.

Despite promising to implement ridesharing in B.C. by the end of 2017, the NDP government decided to delay the launch last month, to conduct an expert review first.
