Amazon Alexa December Roundup: Spotify Podcasts, Netflix on Echo Show, and More
In November, Amazon partnered with (RED) to announce the limited-edition (echo)RED, launched an original long-form show Super Spy Ryan, introduced Alexa Routines for Fire TV, as well as new security features for eero.
Now for the month of December, below are the top Alexa updates you should know about.
Netflix Now Available on Echo Show
Amazon customers in Canada now have access to the full Netflix catalog on Echo Show. Simply say, “Alexa, open Netflix” and log into your account to get started.
Spotify Podcasts on Alexa
Alexa customers in Canada are now able to listen to podcasts available through Spotify on their Echo devices. Customers can enable Spotify by linking their accounts in the Alexa app.
Alexa Responses While Watching TV
Customers can ask Alexa on Fire TV devices about the weather or for general information without interrupting the TV viewing or browsing experience. To get started, simply ask, “Alexa, how is the weather?” or “Alexa, how far is planet Mars?”
Meet Alexa
To help users learn all there is to know about our favourite virtual assistant, Amazon created the Meet Alexa hub, a one-stop-shop for customers to review and get informed of Alexa’s features.
Alexa Group Calling
Up to seven friends or family members can now join a hands-free video or audio call from their Echo devices with the new Alexa Group calling feature.
Ring Doorbell Camera Notifications
Fire TV owners in Canada can now receive notifications on their Fire TV screen when the doorbell rings and watch the security camera video in full-screen by saying “Alexa, show me [Ring device name],” or “Alexa, talk to [Ring device name].”
Two-Way Video Calling on Fire TV Cube
Amazon is enabling two-way video calling support on the Fire TV Cube. Customers can now pair a third-party webcam with Fire TV Cube to place and receive hands-free Alexa video calls from their TVs to any other Alexa-enabled device.
