Netflix Renews ‘Cobra Kai’ for Season 5, Ahead of Season 4 Premiere

Cobra Kai has been renewed for a fifth season at Netflix, well before the premiere of its fourth season, scheduled to start streaming this December — reports Deadline.

Production on season 5 is slated to begin this fall in Atlanta. Netflix’s haste in renewing Cobra Kai for another season isn’t surprising — the popular comedy series had already become a shoo-in for renewal after bagging four Emmy nominations this past awards season.

Cobra Kai is an expansion of The Karate Kid franchise, picking up 34 years after the events of the original movie in present-day Southern California, where adult Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) launch dojos of their own to train the next generation of karate kids.

Season 4 will follow Daniel and Johnny through the All Valley Tournament after they combined forces to go up against the villainous John Kreese in the season 3 finale.

Cobra Kai is produced by Sony Pictures Television, and written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg.

After initially starting out as a YouTube Original, Cobra Kai found a new home at Netflix after its first two seasons. Season 3 of the series streamed exclusively on Netflix, where it was very well-received.
