AirPods Pro 2 Launching in 2022 with Lossless Audio, Case Speakers: Kuo

According to Apple analyst and crystal ball holder Ming-Chi Kuo, the second-generation AirPods Pro will come with support for Lossless Audio and a charging case with built-in speakers to emit a sound to make it easier to locate (via MacRumors).

Kuo talked about the AirPods Pro 2’s improved charging case and support for the Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) in a note to investors viewed by MacRumors.

Apple’s current-generation AirPods Pro can’t play Lossless Audio, and Kuo expects the addition of Lossless Audio support in their successor to drive up demand.

The sound-emitting charging case will likely factor into Find My functionality for the upcoming AirPods Pro, much like Apple’s AirTags, allowing users to have not only their individual AirPods but the case as well give off an audio signal to make them easier to find.

We saw alleged leaked images of the AirPods Pro 2, complete with a charging case featuring speaker holes to emit a sound, back in October.

These rumours come on top of previous reports from Kuo, where he said the new AirPods Pro will feature an updated design and will be powered by a new chip. Kuo has previously hinted at fitness and health tracking for next-generation AirPods Pro as well.

The analyst said the AirPods Pro 2 will debut in 2022, and narrowed the launch window down to the last quarter of the year.
