Rogers Launches 8 Gbps Internet Speeds with Wi-Fi 6E Modem

Rogers announced on Wednesday the launch of its 8 Gbps Ignite internet plan, along with a new Wi-Fi 6E modem. Rogers touts it is the “first major provider in Canada to launch a new Wi-Fi modem with Wi-Fi 6E.”

The telecom says 8 Gbps Ignite internet is now available in select areas in Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

“As part of Our Commitment to Canadians to deliver network reliability and exceptional services, we are investing in cutting-edge technologies to ensure we are providing the best online experience,” said Robert Dépatie, President and Chief Operating Officer, Home & Business, Rogers Communications, in a statement.

“Pushing the boundaries of what is possible is core to Rogers innovation and with the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E along with our premium Ignite Internet with 8 Gbps symmetrical speeds, customers will have access to the world’s most powerful Wi-Fi technology available – the first of any major provider in Canada – and Canada’s fastest Internet speeds,” added Dépatie.

Back in April, Rogers teased it would launch 8 Gbps internet speeds this summer, with a goal to hit 10 Gbps symmetrical download and upload speeds.

This is neat! I just wish more than 1% of Rogers consumer footprint was hooked up with FTTH…

Yeah, let me know how many people:
– can actually get Robbers fiber
– have the equipment to handle 8Gbps

Marketing cr4p….”my d!ck speed is bigger than yours” 🤣

I have no idea if I can get their Fiber. Knowing my area it’ll be years down the road.

However at least I have the equipment. Most higher end gaming motherboards will include a 10gb port and you used to be able to get small switches for fairly cheap. I had picked up a 4 combo port “managed” switch for $400. Sadly if I’d known they were going to jump to $650 I would have bought a second to use as a bridge between my firewall and my gaming area.

I’ll only switch if they give me a good deal. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m currently happen with my 1 gb bell connection.

We have rogers at work because bell is cheap and refuses to add fiber to our business complex so our fastest bell offering is 5 mb and I usually have to reboot the modem every other week to maintain some connections.

You also need to get 10 GB certified ethernet cables as well and possibly other interfaces

The cables are not that expensive. It’s the switches that are, and of course if you need to rewire. But the difference in cable price between 10gb and 1gb is marginal compared to the other costs.
