Quebecor’s Videotron announced today it will be improving wireless coverage in the outer regions of Quebec, as new cell towers are coming to Abitibi-Témiscamingue and the Laurentians.

Videotron says at least 37 new cell towers will be installed as part of an ongoing partnership with the province of Quebec.

“On the heels of the success of Canada-Québec Operation High Speed, in which we connected over 37,000 Québec households to Videotron’s high-speed Internet network, we are proud to have been selected to be part of the Québec government’s new initiative to improve wireless coverage in outlying regions,” said Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor, in a statement. “Access to a quality mobile network is crucial to support economic development and ensure the safety of Quebecers.”

Videotron says the exact locations of new cell tower sites in Abitibi-Témiscamingue and the Laurentians will be finalized by the end of this summer.

Earlier today, Videotron’s prepaid brand, Fizz, launched new plans after ending its beta testing phase and expansion, with the latter now servicing 21 million Canadians, not just in Quebec.

This is good news… Now that Videotron owns Freedom, it would be nice if they had 600 Mhz in more places. I don’t think there is much if anything outside of short range 2100 Mhz.
