Apple Renames Apple ID to Apple Account Amid Feature Updates

This fall, Apple will rename Apple ID to Apple Account, aiming to provide a consistent sign-in experience across all Apple services and devices.
This change will roll out with the releases of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 18, visionOS 2, and tvOS 18. Users’ existing credentials will remain unchanged, said Apple on Tuesday.
Rumours of this change was reported back in February by MacRumors and now it has been confirmed by Apple.
For those that installed iOS 18 beta, you can see Apple Account already showing in Settings:
Aside from announcing the change to Apple Account, the company also highlighted some new features coming this fall across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch.
With iOS 18, Apple Maps introduces new features, including the ability to explore U.S. national parks with detailed hiking routes and create custom walking paths (Canadians heading down south can give this a try). Users can save favourite routes and add personal notes in the new Places Library.
Apple Wallet’s event tickets are getting a major redesign, featuring key event information like venue maps, in-seat food delivery options, recommended playlists from Apple Music, and local weather forecasts.
Apple Fitness+ will get a redesigned interface to help users stay motivated and consistent with their workouts. The update will include personalized recommendations, an Explore feature for discovering new activities, and easier tracking of favourite workouts and meditations.
Apple Music will bring SharePlay enhancements, allowing more users to share control of music playback on HomePod, Apple TV, or Bluetooth-enabled speakers. The new Music Haptics feature will enable users who are deaf or hard of hearing to experience music through vibrations.
As for Apple TV, it will introduce InSight, a feature that displays real-time information about actors, characters, and music during Apple TV+ shows and movies. The tvOS 18 update will also improve subtitle functionality and dialogue clarity through machine learning and computational audio.
Lastly, iCloud Mail will receive upgrades for better inbox management, categorizing emails into Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions.
