Rogers has emerged as the top broadband provider in Canada, according to a recent Opensignal report that has published new data.

Opensignal told iPhone in Canada Rogers now leads for ‘Reliability Experience,’ what it says is a new metric that measures the ability of Opensignal users to connect and complete ‘uninterrupted’ tasks on internet networks. Rogers scored 724 points out of 1000, surpassing Bell, Telus, and SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet.

Now that Rogers also includes Shaw customers, the company was able to secure national wins in Reliability, Consistent Quality, Download Speed, and Video Experience. Rogers also took home the most wins in regional categories, claiming 21 awards.

Bell’s fibre network also received high praise from Opensignal, winning all five national Fibre Experience awards. Bell’s Pure Fibre Internet outperformed competitors in speed and quality, earning 13 regional awards, including eight outright wins.

“With our national coast-to-coast wireline network connecting over 60% of Canadian households, we are incredibly proud to be recognized with the most reliable internet and the fastest speeds in Canada,” said Ron McKenzie, Chief Technology and Information Officer, Rogers, in a statement, reacting to the win. “This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to invest in our networks and to deliver the best communications and entertainment experiences to our customers.”

Regionally, Rogers led in Consistent Quality in British Columbia and Manitoba, beating fibre competitors. EastLink provided the most consistent experience in Alberta and Ontario, while SaskTel excelled in Saskatchewan with its infiNET product, leading in Consistent Quality and Upload Speed.

Bell has been significantly upgrading its infrastructure with fibre-to-the-home, covering around 7.3 million premises as of July 2023. Rogers, following its acquisition of Shaw, now serves seven provinces and is also the largest provider in fixed broadband and pay-TV subscriptions. Telus continues to expand its fibre network, aiming to grow its PureFibre gigabit network and ranks third in overall marketshare.

Starlink was included in the comparison due to its popularity in rural and remote areas. Since launching in January 2021, Starlink has expanded its satellite constellation to over 6,000 active satellites as of May 2024, bringing crucial internet access to where traditional broadband is unavailable. Soon, Starlink Direct to Cell satellites will offer cellular coverage everywhere on the planet, with Rogers being the Canadian partner of SpaceX.

Key word is Shaw.
Rogers is no better than any other – in fact worse in many areas.
