Virgin Plus Hikes Price of Select Black Friday Plans and More
Last November, flanker brands of the Big 3, Koodo (Telus), along with Fido (Rogers) and Virgin Plus (Bell) offered $29/30GB plans for Black Friday.
These plans were available from dealers at physical retail locations, available for new and existing customers.
Fast forward nearly eight months, and now we’re hearing of Virgin Plus increasing the price of this Black Friday offer. According to iPhone in Canada readers, recent Virgin Plus billing statements now note the $30/30GB plan is now priced at $35 per month for the same amount of data, equating to a $5 increase.
Beyond this Black Friday plan jumping in price, Virgin Plus has also increased the price of its 20GB, 50GB and 60GB bring your own phone plans on its website:
- $44/20GB ($5 increase)
- $50/50GB ($6 increase)
- $54/60GB ($4 increase)
As of writing, both Fido and Koodo still offer $34/20GB, $39/40GB and $44/50GB plans (Fido also has a $49/60GB offering). These rivals have yet to match the Virgin Plus price increase.
Telus-owned Public Mobile still has $34/50GB Canada-US plans, that are in lock step with similar offerings from Quebecor’s Freedom Mobile.
You might want to check your latest Virgin Plus billing statement to see if your Black Friday promo plans have increased in price or not. The price increase after the fact is nothing new, as it’s a tactic we’ve seen time and time again from our Big 3 telecoms.

Koodo had a $29 / 30GB 4G Plan over the Christmas break – then announced on April 1st it was going up to $34 effective May 1.
Towards the end of April, it then offered $30 / 30GB – moved to that rather than pay the full 21% increase. Then mid-June, it gave me $30 / 60GB.
