Tesla Cybertruck Canada Release Date: Still Aiming for 2024

Tesla has announced that it is “still aiming” to release the Cybertruck in Canada in 2024.

This update follows Transport Canada’s recent issuance of an exemption order under Section 9 of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, permitting the deployment of the Cybertruck with a steer-by-wire system that does not meet the minimum steering angle requirement, reports Tesla North.

The exemption, granted on July 18, 2024, will be available for five years. It allows Tesla to bypass a section that governs Electronic Stability Control Systems for Light Vehicles. The decision is intended to foster the development of new vehicle tech and systems without significantly reducing the overall safety performance of the Cybertruck.

Tesla is required to submit semi-annual incident reports documenting any malfunctions or failures in the steering system, both hardware and software, along with the corrective actions taken. The first report is due next January, while Tesla must notify Transport Canada right away of any over-the-air updates to the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system or the steering system’s steering angle that could change how the ESC works.

In March, Tesla had indicated it was collaborating with Canadian authorities to bring the Cybertruck to Canada. So far, Cybertruck is only officially available in the US and has been gaining popularity amongst celebrities. But you can see the Cybertruck at select Tesla showrooms in Canada.

So far, only the Cybertruck versions Cyberbeast (starting at $102,000 USD or about $140,000 CAD) and All-Wheel Drive ($82,000 USD or about $113,000 CAD) configurations are available, with a more affordable rear-wheel drive slated for sometime in 2025.

This announcement comes amid Tesla’s recent price increases for its Model 3/Y and Model S/X in Canada and the introduction of the Quicksilver colour option for the Model Y.

In other Cybertruck news, the vehicle will be debuting in Fortnite and Rocket League on Tuesday.

Even less people will be able to afford it here. It will be half of the capital tax exemption…and look twice as ugly doing it. To each their own.

The Cybertruck is too futuristic for me. If I could afford a new EV truck, I like the trucks from Rivian.

Money talks…. exceptions to regulations, an overlook of the obvious risk of an impact with a stainless steel implement that looks like a knife, justvtommakw some sales.
No serious tradie will buy one…just the nouveau riche with more money than brains. Just check the YT reviews if you think this is a good work/leisure truck.
