How to Watch Gamescom Opening Night Live and What to Expect

Today, the kickoff to Gamescom in Germany begins. One of the biggest gaming events of the year is being held today as developers and media around the world gather to celebrate upcoming games. It all starts with Opening Night Live later today.

Opening Night Live takes place on Tuesday, August 20th. Once again, the show is being hosted by Summer Game Fest and the Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley. The event itself is taking place at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. However, Opening Night Live is also being live-streamed to audiences around the world. Here’s how to watch and what to expect.

As in previous years, Opening Night Live is a marquee event in the gaming industry. Brand-new trailers and announcements are made for upcoming games. The Gamescom keynote is also a way for developers to update players on games currently known as well.

Ahead of Gamescom, Keighley and a variety of studios have begun to tease the games due to appear during Opening Night Live. In a post on X (formally Twitter), Keighley confirms that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Monster Hunter Wilds, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Little Nightmares III, and Marvel Rivals will all have appearances during Opening Night Live.

Ahead of the event, Hideo Kojima teased a new character poster with the text “Who Am I?” written on it. The timing naturally aligns with Opening Night Live, with many believing a new trailer for Death Stranding 2 may be shown.

Keighley has also teased an unnamed project in a post with the text “The Beast is Coming.” This immediately sparked internet sleuths to begin searching for what this project may tease. According to the USPTO website, a trademark application was filed for Dying Light: The Beast on August 12, which could be the next installment of the Dying Light franchise.

Opening Night Live begins at 1:30 PM ET/10:30 AM PT with a 30-minute preshow. The main event then starts promptly at 2 PM ET/11 AM PT. To tune in, check out the official YouTube and Twitch channels.
