Apple Launches New iMac with M4 Chip and Fresh Colours

Apple has announced its latest iMac, powered by the new M4 chip, delivering a performance boost over its previous M3 models from last year.

The M4 makes the iMac up to 1.7 times faster for productivity tasks, such as working in Microsoft Excel, and up to 2.1 times faster for demanding workflows like video editing and gaming, compared to the iMac with the M1 chip.

With a more advanced Neural Engine, the M4 enables faster AI operations, making the iMac the most powerful all-in-one for artificial intelligence tasks.

“iMac is beloved by millions of users, from families at home to entrepreneurs hard at work. With the incredible features of Apple Intelligence and the powerful performance of Apple silicon, the new iMac changes the game once again,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.

“With M4 and Apple Intelligence, gorgeous new colours that pop in any space, an advanced 12MP Center Stage camera, and a new nano-texture glass display option, it’s a whole new era for iMac,” he added.

The new iMac integrates Apple Intelligence, of course, which saw first features dropped today for the iPhone, iPad and Mac. Users can enjoy features like Writing Tools for rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text in any app.

Also, redesigned Siri now supports both voice and typed commands, plus an upcoming update in December will integrate ChatGPT.

This iMac offers bold design choices, with seven vibrant colour options: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. The 24-inch 4.5K Retina display now includes a nano-texture glass option, reducing glare while maintaining excellent image quality.

The new 12MP Center Stage camera ensures users stay perfectly centred during video calls, with Desk View providing both a view of the user and a top-down look at their workspace—ideal for creators and educators.

The iMac also comes with colour-matched accessories, including a Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or optional Trackpad, all equipped with USB-C ports. Again, the base configuration’s Magic Keyboard does not include Touch ID, so you need to upgrade to the 10-core model. Hey, but at least RAM now starts at 16GB across the board.

And yes, the Magic Mouse still charges by plugging into its bottom rear. Where’s a Magic Mouse with wireless charging already?!

Connectivity brings four Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports for faster data transfers and support for two 6K displays. The iMac also features Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Apple says this iMac is using 100% recycled aluminum for the stand and other eco-friendly materials throughout the device. The packaging is now entirely fiber-based, falling in line with its goal to eliminate plastic by 2025.

The new iMac starts at $1,299 CAD (same starting price as last year in Canada), with 16GB of memory as standard. It is available for pre-order today, and official sales will begin on November 8.
