Koodo Launches Cheaper Travel Passes for Roaming Abroad

koodo travel passes

Telus-owned Koodo has launched Travel Passes, which are international roaming passes beyond its traditional Easy Roam offerings, which start from $14/day.

The company’s website says there are now Travel Passes for the US, Caribbean & Mexico and Europe. Passes range from 7, 14 and 30 days, with pricing from $50. These passes allow you to use your existing Koodo plan while in the US and overseas. This can be helpful to receive 2-factor SMS codes and phone calls to your cellphone number.

But pricing is more expensive than eSIM travel options, such as those available from NordVPN’s Saily, which offers 5GB of US data for 30 days from $15, for example. Even Airalo offers more affordable eSIM travel options. You can add an eSIM data plan to your iPhone XS, iPhone XR or newer.

Here is the pricing for Koodo Travel Passes–note that passes to Asia aren’t even available:

USA

  • 7-day pass for $55: Text US7PASS to 7626 ($7.86/day)

Caribbean & Mexico

  • 7-day pass for $60: Text CAR7PASS to 7626 ($8.56/day)

Europe

  • 14-day pass for $50: Text EU14PASS to 7626 ($3.56/day)
  • 30-day pass for $60: Text EU30PASS to 7626 ($2/day)

Koodo previously debuted these travel passes for Europe about two months ago, but now there are also options for the Caribbean and Mexico and the US, for example.

Recently, the CRTC asked Rogers, Telus and Bell to offer lower international roaming options. This might be a response from Telus to “listen” to the CRTC’s scary demands.

US should be included with the plan.

$5/day is still way too much. I pay $4/month for US roaming. My carrier (Fizz) wouldn't offer it for that price if they didn't make a profit. $5/day is an improvement, but still a huge cash grab. $14/day is just robbery.

$55 for a 7 day pass is highway robbery.

Ya. It’s not a good price… like sure it’s cheaper if you’re going for exactly 7 days than using their per day thing… but THAT is also too expensive…

Should be a little more than an eSIM option, but not this much more. Other commenter said $35 and that also seems about right to me too.

Street robbery (as with everything else in Canada). In any European airport, you can buy a no-contract, prepaid SIM for €10 with 50GB of data valid for 30 days.
