Freedom Mobile 5G+ Now Live: See Where You Can Get It
Freedom Mobile has added nearly 180 new 5G sites in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia, including areas with 5G+ technology for faster speeds and better coverage. These upgrades, completed in recent months, will extend Freedom’s 5G network to over 1 million more people, the company said on Monday.
Existing customers will see expanding coverage in busy areas like business districts, schools, and transit hubs. The upgrades are part of Freedom Mobile’s effort to compete with Rogers, Telus, and Bell and improve mobile services across Canada. Back in the summer, all Freedom plans gained included U.S. and Mexico roaming.
“Since Freedom joined Quebecor in April 2023, our people have worked tirelessly to deliver some of the most competitive plans on the market and to provide our customers with the best possible experience, wherever they are,” said Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor, in a statement to iPhone in Canada.
Ontario
Freedom has added over 100 new sites across Ontario, expanding 5G and 5G+ coverage in:
- Greater Toronto Area (downtown and suburbs like Bradford West Gwillimbury, Newmarket, and Stouffville)
- Barrie
- Brantford
- London
- Cambridge
- Guelph
- Hamilton
- Kitchener
- Niagara Falls
- Peterborough
- Waterloo
- Windsor
- St. Catharines
Alberta
Freedom Mobile has expanded 5G coverage in key locations in Alberta, including:
- Edmonton
- Edmonton International Airport
- West Edmonton Mall
- St. Albert
- Calgary
British Columbia
In B.C., Freedom Mobile added new 5G and 5G+ sites in the following areas:
- Vancouver
- Downtown Vancouver
- West Vancouver
- Richmond
- Coquitlam
- Port Coquitlam
- Abbotsford
- Victoria
- Colwood
“As Canada’s fourth major telecommunications player, it is important for us to continue investing heavily in our wireless network, which helps us provide coverage across 99% of the Canadian population, and in our mobile services, to which 33 million Canadians can now subscribe,” added Péladeau.
What’s Next?
The upgrades include 5G+ technology that uses advanced spectrum for faster download speeds (up to 700 Mbps) and reduced lag. Parent company Quebecor acquired 3500 and 3800 MHz spectrum for over $1.1 billion in 2021. Freedom Mobile says it plans to continue expanding its network in 2025 to meet growing demand.

So Freedom has spotty coverage in Vancouver and Victoria, and they need to add new sites? I have been thinking of switching over to Freedom.
Coverage is good in Vancouver. New sites are often for increased capacity and reaching areas that need improvement
How exactly was that the takeaway from this?
You can only get 5G in select areas of Victoria.
How's Freedom along Sea To Sky and in Whistler? And how was roaming in the US, Asia, and Europe?
