Rogers, Telus, Bell: Who’s Really Winning Canada’s 5G Race?

A new Opensignal report on Canada’s 5G mobile experience has been released, providing insights into how Rogers, Bell, and Telus compare in key performance areas. The data, collected in Q4 2024, highlights shifts in network rankings and user experience.
Rogers continues to lead in mobile reliability and consistency, maintaining its position as the most stable network in Canada. However, Telus has overtaken Rogers in 5G availability, with users spending 14.2% of their time connected to 5G, the highest in the country. This makes Telus the top choice for users seeking widespread 5G coverage.
When it comes to gaming performance, Bell ranks first, scoring 85.1 out of 100 on Opensignal’s 5G Games Experience scale. This makes Bell the only Canadian carrier to achieve an “Excellent” rating, offering the best mobile gaming experience over 5G networks (who really plays games over 5G networks though?).
Rogers still holds the crown for upload speeds, with users experiencing an average of 12.4 Mbps overall and 29 Mbps over 5G connections. Meanwhile, Telus and Bell are now tied for the fastest 5G download speeds in the country.
Do you know what’s also consistent? How telecoms continue to increase connection fees. Rogers recently raised theirs to $75 when you interact with a human. Telus and Bell have yet to follow.
You can see the charge below detailing the overall experience, 5G experience, coverage and consistency categories. Is there really one dominant winner here? What has your 5G experience been on Rogers, Telus and Bell?

whoever is going to release mmwave first will win
If that were true, all carriers would be sitting at a tie game indefinitely.
Telus network sucks! They throttle their videos. What's the point in 5g when you can't even stream 4k?
Why do I not believe these results. In Ontario around the Golden Horseshoe, Telus is consistently horrible while Rogers is the most consistent, which I believe. I have a dual sim setup on my Pixel 8 Pro and Telus has been the worst for data and voice while Rogers has been the most consistent. The only reason I had to get Rogers is because of Telus' horrible service in the West end of the GTA and beyond.
I used to work at Telus and believed in their service, but lately since the Huawei swap issue, they have not been able to come out of it. Their phone support is a nightmare to deal with. Sometimes I wonder if any of their executives have ever tried phone support to get their issue resolved just to experience a paying customers frustration.
Telus customer service has demonstrably deteriorated lately, likely due to their increased use of outsourced call centers in places like El Salvador, Guatemala, India, and the Philippines. Their handling of roaming charges is a complete mess. Even with roaming turned off on my phone, they still hit me with EasyRoam fees. When I call to complain, the agents are clueless and push me to accept bogus "solutions" and pay up, offering neither empathy nor an apology. The roaming support team, in particular, is clearly undertrained and unhelpful. Agents are clueless and forcing to accept those charges. They're just like, 'Pay up, buttercup,' and offer some 'solution' that makes no sense. No 'sorry,' no 'we care,' just 'gimme your money.' Roaming support? They're, like, trained by monkeys or something. Seriously, ditch these guys. Freedom Roam Prepaid is way better.
