Assassin’s Creed Shadows Launches on Mac on March 20

Ubisoft’s highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on Mac, PC, and consoles on March 20, 2025, marking a major milestone for Apple gaming.

The 14th main entry in the franchise takes players to feudal Japan, introducing two playable protagonists—Yasuke, a powerful warrior, and Naoe, a stealthy shinobi assassin.

For the first time, the game is fully optimized for Mac, leveraging Metal 3, real-time ray tracing, and Apple’s M-series chips for enhanced performance. MacBook Pro users can now experience console-level gameplay on the go says Apple, with Shadows also coming to iPad models with M-series processors.

What’s cool is Assassin’s Creed Shawows was developed by Ubisoft Quebec. It calls Shadows its most ambitious title yet, with a living, dynamic world featuring seasonal changes, realistic weather, and fluid-based cloud simulations.

“It’s been a longtime dream to bring the game to Mac,” said Marc-Alexis Côté, Ubisoft’s executive producer, who first showcased Shadows running on a MacBook Pro during WWDC24.

The game features a dual-character system, allowing players to switch between Yasuke’s brute strength and Naoe’s stealth skills. Shadows also introduces the Hideout, a customizable home base where players can upgrade gear, relax, and even interact with in-game pets—including cats and dogs.

So what are the Mac requirements? You’ll need at least 123GB of free space on your hard drive, while also Apple Silicon, meaning at least M1 or newer. As for RAM, 16GB is the minimum as stated for PC, it also likely applies to Mac.

The game was supposed to launch across all platforms back in November, but it was delayed. Here we are in March.

With Mac gaming on the rise, Ubisoft says it hopes Shadows sets a new standard for day-one releases on Apple’s platform. Pre-orders are now live on the Mac App Store for $89.99 in Canada.
