Sonos Pushes New App Update, Adding Ability to Create and Edit Sonos Playlists

Sonos has released an update across iOS and Android. The new software is said to be deloying over the next few days and adds one new feature to the app.
According to the company, the new version of the software (80.18.23 on Android, 80.18.25 on iOS) adds the ability to create and edit Sonos playlists. This is one of the many features that was initially dropped when Sonos released its new app. Following the rollout, users were no longer able to create Sonos playlists. Instead, the refreshed app only allowed users to create a queue and add songs there.
The returning feature of creating and editing Sonos playlists is said to be rolling out gradually. “This feature will be available to all users over time,” Sonos states in the release notes.
Additionally, the new software is adding improved access to Player Settings on Android. Now, players can tap on an image in output picker. Additionally, background colours are available on Now Playing for Bluetooth and Line-In over on Android devices. The iOS and Android updates also improve launch time and responsiveness.
Sonos’ mobile app has been contentious since its rollout in March 2024. As a means of better supporing the Sonos Ace wireless headset, the company released a new app, designed from the ground up. The only problem was that it stripped away a lot of the features and quality-of-life benefits users came to expect. Over 2024, the company prioritized fixing the app, addressing bugs and improving the suite of features. However, at the start of the year, former CEO and Board Member Patrick Spence stepped down from his position.
Sonos’ new software should be available now. Users are encouraged to refresh the App Store or Play Store to see if the update is accessible.
