BC Hydro’s New App Puts Bills, Outages and Rewards in One Place

BC Hydro’s new mobile app puts bills, hourly usage, outage alerts and Power Smart rewards in one place. The free app landed on the App Store at the end of September, and it signs in with your existing BC Hydro MyHydro account.

On Thursday the utility emailed customers to promote the app, saying cooler weather is a good time to check home electricity use. It also brings contests and savings challenges that used to live mostly on the website.

Open the app and you can see bills and usage down to the hour, get outage information for your address, and turn on notifications for new bills. Peak Saver and Team Power Smart rewards show up there too, so you do not have to bounce between separate pages to check what you have earned.

Team Power Smart is now available inside the app. Customers who start a Reduction Challenge between October 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027, and cut their electricity use by 10 per cent over 12 months can earn a $100 bill credit, double the usual $50 reward. Income-qualified households can earn $150 under a separate triple-reward offer.

BC Hydro says using the app also unlocks daily chances to win through the end of the year when you check your use and take part in challenges. The App Store listing mentions monthly contests and special offers as well.

Business accounts are not supported yet, so the app covers residential accounts only for now. Households already tracking energy with a smart home setup can use it to see how those gadgets affect their hourly use.

Outage alerts may be the most useful part heading into winter storm season, when a single outage can leave people hunting for updates.

You can download the BC Hydro app from the App Store or Google Play, then sign in with MyHydro.

Will you use the app to chase the $100 savings challenge, or just for outage alerts this winter?
