Rogers Stadium Gets New 5G+ Network that Cost Over $5 Million

Rogers has installed a major 5G upgrade at its new outdoor concert venue, Rogers Stadium, located at the former Downsview Airport Lands in Toronto.

The telecom company spent $5.2 million to build a dedicated 5G+ network at the site, aiming to support up to 50,000 concertgoers with faster speeds and stronger signal coverage. The upgrade is meant to help fans stay connected while sharing videos, photos, and messages during events.

More than 50 antennas were placed throughout the stadium, including at the top of the venue over 20 metres above ground, to provide consistent coverage across all seating areas. Rogers says the setup offers the equivalent network support of 14 downtown cell towers.

“We’ve built an entirely new 5G+ network at Rogers Stadium for music fans,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer, in a statement on Monday. “Concertgoers use record amounts of data, and the new network will ensure they have the best connectivity.”

This follows other large-scale 5G investments by the company, including $8 million to boost network speeds at Rogers Centre in Toronto and $10 million to upgrade BC Place in Vancouver ahead of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
