Freedom Mobile Debuts VR Escape at Calgary Stampede
Freedom Mobile is joining the Calgary Stampede this year as the new presenting sponsor of the event’s Grandstand Show—and bringing along a virtual reality attraction to go with it.
From July 4 to 13, Stampede visitors can try the Freedom Mobile Worry-Free Escape, a VR experience set up on the Midway. The installation offers 360-degree drone footage of remote Canadian landscapes, including untouched forests, mountain ranges, and even the Calgary Stampede’s private ranch.
The footage was shot by Canadian videographer Matt Charland, known for his aerial work. Visitors will view the experience inside a modified shipping container, outfitted to mimic the feeling of floating, with see-through chairs and cloud-like visuals.
Freedom Mobile says the goal is to give people a quiet break from the Stampede’s usual crowds and noise, while also tying into the company’s “worry-free” branding.
In addition to the VR booth, Freedom Mobile is also sponsoring a branded drone show, hosting product giveaways, and running a pop-up store for those interested in checking out its wireless plans and phones. We’ll find out details about the special promo plans offered at the Stampede soon, stay tuned.
