Google has rolled out a new feature that turns photos into eight-second videos using AI, now available to Gemini Advanced users in select countries.
The tool is part of Google’s Gemini AI platform and lets users upload a photo, describe what they want to see and hear, and watch the image transform into a short animated video with sound. The update began rolling out this week for subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra, and is also accessible through Flow, Google’s filmmaking AI tool.
Check out the demo video below from Google. You can see the cardboard box picture on the left and on the right it’s turned into a bunch of different videos. The videos are pretty lifelike—it would be hard to tell that it is AI generated to the average user:
Google says over 40 million videos have already been created using its Veo 3 model since launching in May.
Users can animate objects, drawings, or landscapes, and then download or share the video directly. All clips include both visible and invisible watermarks to indicate they were made by AI.
Google says it’s taking steps to prevent misuse, including internal stress-testing and content safety filters. Users can rate their videos with thumbs up or down to help improve the system.

Meanwhile, Google photos still lacks the option to find and select duplicate pics you saved/uploaded. The reason: to get you to buy more Cloud storage.
