Freedom Mobile is giving out free bonus data to some of its customers as part of a 30 million gigabyte giveaway—but who gets it and how much they get seems pretty random.
“We’ve given away 30 million gigabytes of monthly bonus data to select customers this back-to-school season — at no cost and with no catch,” explains an email to Freedom Mobile customers. “This isn’t our first giveaway, and it won’t be our last.”
According to posts online, some customers saw their monthly data jump by 40GB or even 80GB, while others got nothing at all. There’s no official list, and Freedom hasn’t said exactly how it works, but users noticed the boost after logging into their account—no email or text alerts were sent.

In contrast, many users on cheaper or annual prepaid plans didn’t get anything
Some think Freedom is rewarding people who stay on the same plan and don’t use much data. Others suspect certain types of plans—like recent Winback deals or annual prepaid ones—were left out on purpose.
Freedom says the extra data is a monthly bonus, not a one-time top-up, and it’ll stick around as long as you don’t switch plans.

I just found out about this yesterday. I got a text from Freedom. Told me they added another 40GB. I checked and see that both my wife and I are now getting 100GB for $35. I also have an additional 12GB lifetime data. So yes this is a nice surprise but the reality is that we won’t come close to using all this data. This still won’t stop me from shopping around on Black Friday to hopefully reducing our cell phone bills.
