What to Expect at Apple’s September iPhone 17 Event
Apple is set to hold its biggest product launch of the year on Tuesday, September 9, where the company will unveil its latest iPhone 17 lineup plus more.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (the unofficial Apple whisperer), Apple is leaning heavily on hardware upgrades this year. Here’s what Apple will announce at the Apple event next week according to Gurman’s latest insider information.
Apple Watch Updates
Apple Watch upgrades are coming yet again. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 will get a bigger display, a new S11 chip, and satellite-based emergency messaging (Garmin beat Apple to the punch). The regular Apple Watch Series 11 is expected to bring brighter screens and new colours, while the entry-level Apple Watch SE may get a faster chip at the same starting price.
AirPods and Other Accessories
AirPods Pro 3 are expected as soon as this month, with smaller charging cases, possible heart-rate tracking, and a new live translation feature that works with iOS 26. Apple is also preparing updated iPhone cases—including a new bumper-style design (throwback!)—and fresh colour options for its Pro phones.
iPhone 17 Series
We finally will be getting a ‘new’ iPhone design for the first time in five years (well, the rear part of the phone). The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will feature a new back layout for the cameras, better video capabilities, and a lighter aluminum frame that replaces titanium. Camera improvements include a 48-megapixel telephoto lens, a variable aperture system, and the biggest upgrade yet to the selfie camera, which has been lacking compared to offerings from Google and Samsung.
Apple is also introducing an all-new model: the iPhone 17 Air. The ultrathin device—around 5.5mm—will sit between the base iPhone 17 and the Pro models. Gurman reports the Air will be thinner than any current iPhone but will sacrifice some battery life and carry only a single rear camera. It will include a 6.6-inch display, ProMotion support, and Apple’s in-house C1 modem. Is that what Apple fans have been asking for?
Meanwhile, the entry iPhone 17 will move to a slightly larger 6.3-inch screen and gain a ProMotion display for the first time. All models will run on Apple’s new A19 chip family.
What’s Next Beyond September
Beyond Tuesday’s event, Apple is working on more product refreshes. Gurman says that the company has AirTag 2 in development, a new iPad Pro with the M5 chip, a revised Vision Pro headset, an updated Apple TV, and a refreshed HomePod mini.
Who’s going to be upgrading to an iPhone 17 series phone this year? Those that have hung onto their aging iPhones the only reason to upgrade is likely to get a new battery. The big question for Canadians will be the price and whether tariffs will play a big impact on your wallet or not. Let’s get ready for the show on Tuesday, folks.

I don’t understand why would tariffs play significant role in iPhone price increase. They are coming from China and Canada hasn’t imposed the same tariffs on them as US.
