Rogers Xfinity Pro Brings Next-Gen Wi-Fi 7 to Internet Customers

Rogers is rolling out a new add-on called Rogers Xfinity Pro, offering faster and more reliable in-home internet with support for WiFi 7 technology.

The optional upgrade is available to all Rogers Xfinity Internet customers and includes a new WiFi 7-enabled gateway, device prioritization, and a backup feature called Storm Ready WiFi to keep homes connected during outages.

The Xfinity Gateway (Gen 4) is also known as the XB10, Comcast/Xfinity’s (remember, Rogers has partnered with Comcast for its internet network tech) latest all-in-one gateway that combines DOCSIS 4.0 technology with Wi-Fi 7 tri-band support (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz). It delivers multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds and connects hundreds of devices simultaneously. The hardware is manufactured by Sercomm for Comcast, with Broadcom supplying the internal chipset.

“Canadians deserve the best internet experience and Rogers Xfinity Pro brings customers our most powerful gateway yet, with next-generation WiFi 7, and features they can’t get anywhere else,” said Bret Leech, President, Residential, Rogers, in a statement on Thursday. “With Rogers Xfinity Pro, customers get our best equipment and latest technology for an elevated WiFi experience – all powered by Canada’s most reliable internet.”

The new gateway can deliver multi-gigabit WiFi speeds and handle more connected devices at once. Users can also “Boost a Device” to give priority bandwidth to a specific device.

Now, usually you can call Rogers to get upgraded to new hardware at no cost (free rental basically) depending on your plan agreement, but with Xfinity Pro you need to pay for it, priced from $25 per month for existing customers with self-install.

Back in July, Rogers rolled out Wi-Fi 7 hardware starting in Alberta. Telus followed in July and Bell launched its own Wi-Fi 7 hardware last month.

Insane. $25 per month just to rent? Thats $300 per year. You could get a far superior WiFi 7 router from ubiquity for that price and keep it forever. After three years you could have 3 and have a powerful mesh network.
