Rogers and Fido Confirm Data Breach Affecting Customer Information
Rogers and its flanker brand Fido have been hit by a data breach involving unauthorized access to customer information. The company disclosed the incident on Friday, noting that the breach was caught through its own internal security monitoring systems.
According to a report by The Globe and Mail, the breach specifically compromised customer names, contact details, account numbers, and language preferences. Rogers clarified that more sensitive data, such as social insurance numbers, dates of birth, passwords, and financial information, was not affected.
The company is still investigating the total number of customers impacted by the security failure.
In an email on Friday, Rogers spokesperson Zac Carreiro told the Globe, “Through our proactive cybersecurity monitoring, we recently identified unauthorized third-party access to limited customer information. We took immediate steps to investigate and implement additional protection. We have not identified unauthorized access to any personal financial information.”
Rogers says it is continuing to review the full scope of the incident to notify those affected.
While Rogers focused on the categories of data that remained secure, the company failed to mention the specific number of affected customers and the exact duration the “unauthorized access” went undetected. Also, the statement avoided addressing whether the breach was linked to recent layoffs within their in-house IT support team or how the stolen account numbers could be used to help future phishing attacks by scammers.
Other telecoms that have faced data breaches recently include Freedom Mobile and Telus subsidiary Telus Digital.

Why should we be giving these clowns our SIN numbers just for an internet or phone line anyway? Ridiculous
This is horrible. more than enough information has been accessed to commit fraud. I am so sick and tired of changing passwords for my logins because of servers being hacked remotely.
