Microsoft Surface Prices Skyrocket in Canada with Hikes Up to $700

Following the report from Windows Central, Microsoft has updated its Canadian store with significant price increases across the Surface lineup. In some cases, base configurations are seeing jumps of as much as $700 CAD as the company grapples with rising component and memory costs, and on top of that currency exchange rates.

“Due to recent increases in memory and component costs, Surface is updating pricing on Microsoft.com for its current‑generation hardware portfolio,” said a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to Windows Central. “We remain committed to delivering value to customers and partners while upholding our standards for quality and innovation.”

The price adjustments for the base models in Canada are summarized below (keyboards not included with Surface Pro):

Model New Starting Price (CAD) Previous Starting Price (CAD) Total Increase
Surface Pro 13-inch $2,149.99 $1,449.99 $700
Surface Laptop 13.8-inch $2,149.99 $1,449.99 $700
Surface Laptop 15-inch $2,299.99 $1,649.99 $650
Surface Laptop 13-inch $1,649.99 $1,349.99 $300
Surface Pro 12-inch $1,499.99 $1,199.99 $300

The higher end of the spectrum has also been hit hard. A top tier 15-inch Surface Laptop 7 equipped with a Snapdragon X Elite processor, 64GB of RAM, and 1TB SSD now carries a price tag of $5,299.99 CAD.

While the Microsoft Store has already implemented these changes, third-party Canadian retailers like Amazon.ca still have stock at older pricing for a limited time. It’s not just Microsoft that is grappling with the memory shortage due to the AI boom. Sony has increased PlayStation 5 prices and it’s essentially impacting the whole electronics industry.
