Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson’s ‘Brothers’ Now Streaming on Apple TV

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are bringing their real-life friendship to Apple TV today with the premiere of Brothers.

The new eight-episode comedy stars the longtime friends as fictionalized versions of themselves, with the first two episodes available to stream beginning today, September 23. The show leans into the long-running question of whether McConaughey and Harrelson might actually be related.

Brothers begins after Harrelson’s daughter’s engagement falls apart, prompting him to pack up his family and temporarily move to McConaughey’s ranch in Austin. Things become considerably more complicated when McConaughey’s mother, Ma Mac, played by Holland Taylor, lets slip a decades-old family secret suggesting the two friends could actually be brothers. Harrelson subsequently becomes determined to uncover the truth, while McConaughey is dealing with another rather substantial life decision: a potential run for governor of Texas.

The premise plays off the actors’ genuine friendship and previous comments about potentially sharing the same biological father. McConaughey revealed in 2023 that his mother had suggested she “knew” Harrelson’s father during a period when his own parents were separated.

Brothers marks the return of McConaughey and Harrelson acting on screen together. The duo previously starred together in HBO’s acclaimed first season of True Detective in 2014. The supporting cast includes Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan and Oona Yaffe alongside Taylor. Lee Eisenberg serves as showrunner and executive producer, while McConaughey and Harrelson also executive produce. Paramount Television Studios produces the series.

The season of Brothers is comprised of eight total episodes. Each new episode lands on Apple TV on Wednesday, leading to the season finale on November 4th.

Brothers joins an increasingly busy Apple TV lineup, following a particularly strong year for the streaming service. Apple TV recently picked up a record 14 Emmy wins for Widow’s Bay, while Apple has also begun filling out its slate for 2027.
