Public Mobile Revamps Plans as Back-to-School Promos End

Telus-owned Public Mobile has ended its back-to-school promo plans, replacing them with a new nine-tier lineup that reshuffles data buckets and raises the price at the top end.

The four Canada-U.S.-Mexico 5G promos, $35/25GB, $40/75GB, $45/125GB and $50/175GB, are gone from Public Mobile’s site as of Sunday morning, completing the wind-down that began when Public Mobile’s $20 plan jumped to $22 earlier this month.

Public Mobile 4G plans

Public Mobile 5G plans

• $30/10GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico, 250 international minutes (new)
• $32/20GB Canada-wide (new)
• $34/60GB Canada-wide, unlimited reduced-speed data after 60GB, 500 international minutes (new)
• $35/60GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico, 500 to 1,000 international minutes (new)
• $45/80GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico, 2,000 international minutes (was 125GB)
• $55/100GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico, 2,000 international minutes (was $50/175GB)

The top tier takes the biggest hit. The $55/100GB plan costs $5 more per month than the old $50/175GB promo while offering 75GB less data. The $34/60GB tier introduces something new for Public Mobile: unlimited data at reduced speeds once the 60GB bucket runs out, a fallback the prepaid brand previously did not offer.

Gone from the lineup are the $22/1GB, $24/5GB, $28/10GB and $30/35GB 4G tiers, plus the $35/50GB 5G Canada plan. The promos originally launched as back-to-school offers in mid-August with no published end date.

Cheapest entry into 5G is now the $30/10GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico tier. With Black Friday about two months out, and our September prepaid roundup showing rivals holding steady, these prices are unlikely to be the last word.
