Apple’s Touch MacBook Pro Could Start at Over $4,000 in Canada

Apple is lining up new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with touch screens for its Pro and Tell event on Wednesday, October 28, with early US prices already pointing to Canadian estimates well above today’s base M6 laptop.
According to a new Bloomberg report, the touch models are expected to bring these changes:
- OLED XDR touch displays, a first for any Mac
- A Dynamic Island on the display, also a Mac first
- Thinner borders, a slightly slimmer design and a lighter body
- A redesigned hinge so the screen does not bounce when tapped
- Reworked cooling that helps cut weight and improve airflow
- macOS Golden Gate dial-style menus around a finger, with the keyboard and trackpad still primary
- M5 Pro and M5 Max chips on the first touch models
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also said on X that he expects “impressive OS changes for touch.” He does not expect the current non-touch 14-inch M5 Pro ($3,499 CAD) and 16-inch ($4,199 CAD) MacBook Pros to go anywhere on Wednesday, since Apple stores are still fully stocked.
Apple has discussed charging $2,899 US for the 14-inch touch model, about $400 US more than today’s non-touch version. Based on today’s exchange rates, that works out to roughly $4,070 CAD before tax, though Apple Canada hasn’t confirmed pricing. Paying over $4,000 plus tax for a touch MacBook would be quite something. A 16-inch touch model would start at least around $3,399 US, or about $4,772 CAD.
Pre-orders are expected to open Wednesday, with stores as early as Friday, November 6, after the recent Apple Store reset that pointed to new Macs.
Would a touch MacBook Pro starting at over $4,000 CAD be worth it for you, or are you sticking with a non-touch model?
