Apple CEO Teases a Glowing MacBook Logo Ahead of Today’s Event

Apple CEO John Ternus posted a short, wordless video on X this morning that looks a lot like a glowing Apple logo lighting up a laptop lid. It arrives hours before Apple’s Pro and Tell hands-on event in Los Angeles, set for 10 a.m. PT today.
The five-second clip has no caption. A beam shaped like the Apple logo sweeps across a dark, laptop-shaped wall against a nighttime city skyline, then settles into a bright white apple. Many readers are taking it as a hint that the lit lid logo could return on the next pro MacBook.
That detail was once a Mac trademark. Apple introduced the glowing logo on the PowerBook G3 in 1999, with the screen’s backlight shining through a cutout in the lid covered by translucent plastic. It lasted about 16 years on PowerBooks and MacBooks. The 2016 redesign dropped the effect from the MacBook Pro, so the 2015 models were the last to carry it.
Today’s invite gathers selected reporters and creators for hands-on time with products Apple is expected to show in Los Angeles. Fresh 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touch displays, firmer hinges for tap input, and M5 Pro and M5 Max chips sit at the centre of the rumours, alongside the iPad mini and other Macs Apple already announced earlier this week.
Pre-orders for the touch models are rumoured to open at 10:10 a.m. PT. In the U.S., pricing is rumoured to start around $2,899 USD for the 14-inch model, which would translate to well over $4,000 CAD before tax if Apple Canada follows a similar jump from current non-touch pricing.
Ternus has used this kind of teaser before. Ahead of the iPhone 18 Pro launch in September, a short clip from his account pointed toward the phone’s variable aperture camera, which later showed up in the finished product. He has been Apple’s chief executive since September 1, 2026, after taking over from Tim Cook.
Nothing in the post names a product or a feature, so the glowing logo stays unconfirmed until Apple speaks later this morning. Even so, pairing a nostalgia hit with Apple’s first rumoured touchscreen Mac would be a clear way to mark a redesign.
Would bringing back the glowing Apple logo make you more likely to upgrade to a new MacBook Pro?
