Ecobee App Adds Daily AI Home Summary Starting Today

Toronto-based ecobee today introduced an opt-in, AI-powered Home Summary in its app, along with new Smart Security tools meant to make heating, cooling and security activity easier to follow in one place.

Home Summary pulls HVAC activity, weather, energy use and home security into a daily view. Customers can see how their heating and cooling systems are running and how outdoor weather affects energy use. For Smart Security subscribers, the summary can also show whether the home is armed and which family members are home. When solar and battery gear is connected, the digest can cover battery charge, backup readiness and solar versus grid use.

“Managing the essential infrastructure of a home, such as HVAC, backup power, and security systems can be complicated. We’re excited to take this next step in simplifying our customers’ lives,” said Greg Fyke, President of ecobee. “Home Summary provides transparency and trust that your home’s most important systems are working effectively, so that you can focus on what matters most to you in your household.”

Alongside the summary, ecobee is updating Smart Security with a Security Activity Summary that groups related events into fewer, more descriptive notifications and a simpler Activity Feed. That update is coming to Core, Plus and Advanced plans.

Two more opt-in AI tools are limited to Advanced subscribers. Video Descriptions add context to recorded camera activity when they are turned on, and Quick Search helps customers find security moments with natural language. Those features sit on top of the same camera and sensor setup used with products such as the Smart Doorbell Camera.

Customers will see Home Summary begin rolling out through the ecobee app today. The new Smart Security features are due by the end of the year. The company is also refreshing the app with a cleaner layout and clearer information throughout.

Will you turn on Home Summary, or are you waiting to see how the Smart Security AI tools work first?
