Telegram Messenger Launches New Universal App to Bring iPad Support

Telegram Messenger jumped in popularity after Facebook acquired WhatsApp, hitting 35 million active monthly users in just seven months. The secure messaging service touts itself as a quick, safe and reliable chat alternative, available on various mobile and desktop platforms.

For those wanting to use Telegram on the iPad, the company has released a new universal version of the app called ’Telegram HD’. The messaging service confirmed with us this newer app will eventually replace the existing Telegram iOS app for iPhone.

According to Macerkopf, once you install the iPad app, it’ll ask for your phone number, where an activation code will be sent to confirm your identity. Once setup and installed, messages are synced across both your iPhone and iPad.

Telegram was created by brothers Pavel and Nikolai Durov, founders of VKontakte, the largest social network in Europe. Back in March, the serviced added audio messages and improved chat deletion. The problem with Telegram is getting your friends to download and join yet another social network. But if you value privacy with self destructing messages, this might be one to consider.
