CRTC ‘Monitoring’ the Nationwide Rogers Network Outage

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission said on Friday morning the ongoing major Rogers network outage is on its radar.

“We are aware of the outage that is affecting internet and mobile services on Rogers networks in Canada. We are monitoring the situation,” said the commission.

In a follow-up tweet, the CRTC admitted the Rogers outage has taken down its phone lines. “Please note that our phone lines are affected by the Rogers network outage. Our website is still available.” Federal government workers with no access to phone lines? Time for an extended coffee break (kidding).

Back in March, the CRTC approved the Rogers-Shaw merger, specifically the transfer of broadcasting licenses, saying “Canadians as consumers will benefit from this transaction.”
