Can’t Buy SHIB on Wealthsimple? It’s Due to ‘Unprecedented’ Buying Volume

Share: twitterTweet facebookShare

Toronto-based Wealthsimple launched the ability to buy trending cryptocurrency Shiba Inu (SHIB) on its Crypto platform on Thursday, but since its debut, buying has been shut down due to overwhelming demand, says the company.

In an email to Wealthsimple Crypto customers sent on Friday, the company explained the matter and apologized for the downtime:

We’re writing to let you know that Shiba Inu (SHIB) is temporarily unavailable to buy on Wealthsimple Crypto due to a technical issue caused by an unprecedented amount of buying activity. We are working very hard to fix this issue as soon as possible it is our top priority. We understand this is frustrating and we sincerely apologize for this issue. What does this mean? You will not be able to buy SHIB until the token is available on Wealthsimple Crypto again.

Please also note, at this time you cannot deposit SHIB into your Wealthsimple Crypto account. Deposits currently only support BTC and ETH, with more tokens rolling out soon. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and are working very hard to make SHIB available again as soon as possible. Please visit status.wealthsimple.com for updates. If you have any questions, please reach out to our team we’re here to help.

According to the Wealthsimple status page, as of Nov 5, 16:10 EDT, buying of SHIB is still down.

Of course, people on Twitter weren’t happy about the downtime, as they were unable to buy SHIB “on the dip” yesterday.
