Switzerland’s Apple Pay Launch Said to Arrive June 13: Report

Swiss financial news site finews.chreports Apple Pay is set to launch in Switzerland on June 13, the same day as the kickoff of WWDC 2016 (via iphone-ticker.de), leading to speculation the opening keynote may include further expansion news of the mobile wallet.

Apple is said to have registered the Apple Pay trademark in the country at the end of last February, with the first bank on board rumoured to be Cornèr Bank. No details of involvement from the country’s “two big banks” Credit Suisse or UBS were mentioned.

Finews said when reached for comment, Apple Switzerland responded it does not comment on speculation.

Apple Pay in Switzerland would mark the seventh country to support the mobile wallet, to go along with Australia, mainland China, Singapore, the UK, the U.S. and Canada.

Last week, TD, BMO and Scotiabank launched Apple Pay in Canada, rounding out sweeping support by our nation’s ‘Big 5’ banks, joining RBC and CIBC.
