Keyboard and Trackpad Issues Reported by Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro Owners

MacRumors points to a growing support thread on Apple Support Communities, where members have reported several issues with the newly launched 13-inch and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro models. The majority of users posting here have reported keyboard and trackpad freezes as well as difficulties installing Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 using Apple’s Boot Camp utility.

Throughout the support thread, which now consists of over 18 pages, a majority of new 13-inch and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro owners have complained about the trackpad, which reportedly locks up randomly during use. Currently, the hard reset using the power button appears to be the only workaround.

A small survey posted in the thread shows that both the first and second tiers of MacBook Pros have issues, but the most severe issues are with the 2.4GHz CPU, 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM models.

Another thread was started by users who have encountered issues while installing Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 on the new MacBook Pros. Yet another post in the support thread, which gives specific instructions on how to use the Boot Camp assistant, has solved the issue for some who have gotten stuck while installing Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

Apple is silent for the moment on these issues, but it will likely issue an official EFI update to address these issues reported by users. The 13-inch and 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro models were launched just several days ago by Apple. The 13-inch model starts at $1349, while the 15-inch model starts at $2049.
