Terry Blanchard, engineering lead for Apple’s Mail application for six years, has left the company to be a part of Readdle, the Ukranian developer responsible for popular productivity apps like Scanner Pro, PDF Expert, and the email app Spark.
Blanchard first joined Apple in 2011 and was in charge of the development and QA teams for Apple Mail until his recent departure earlier this month.
While it’s unclear exactly why Blanchard has decided to part ways with Apple, he does hint that he shares “a fundamental vision of what the future of email should be” with Readdle.
“Spark is modernizing email as we know it. We share a fundamental vision of what the future of email should be,” said Blanchard in a Readdle press release.
“I’ve always admired Readdle for their beautiful and innovative products, which makes them the ideal company to turn that vision into a reality,” he continued.
Blanchard will be in charge of hiring more engineers to work on Spark in San Francisco, Readdle’s first remote office outside of its main headquarters in Odessa, Ukraine.
The Spark email app is available as a free download on the App Store for iPhone and iPad and Mac.
