Apple Case Manufacturers Update Internal SKUs to ‘iPhone 8,’ ‘iPhone 8 Plus,’ and ‘iPhone Edition’

It looks as if Apple is planning to name its new smartphones the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone Edition, if official Apple case makers are to be believed.

According to a new report from 9to5Mac, iPhone case makers are making changes to the SKUs of their cases for the upcoming lineup of Apple smartphones. It seems as if the iPhone featuring an edge-to-edge display and the remaining two models are not going to be called what everyone thought.

Instead, it appears that these case manufacturers believe that the new names for the upcoming devices will be iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone Edition.

9to5Mac was behind the scenes at the IFA conference in Berlin, where they got the chance to discuss the upcoming iPhone launch with various case manufacturers. According to the site, at least two have acted on information gleaned from sources in Shenzhen, who had reportedly seen the new iPhone’s packaging.

“One casemaker has updated their internal SKUs based on the information and is actively printing packaging which I was able to see in the form of preliminary artwork,” reads Seth Weintraub’s article on 9to5Mac. “The other had made sticker labels which they were showing to their retail partners behind closed doors. Both makers requested anonymity for obvious reasons.”

In addition to the names, sources say the iPhone Edition will have Qi wireless charging at a reduced rate compatible with current Qi chargers, a Lightning port, and improved Gorilla Glass 5.

Apple recently announced a special event on September 12th to be held at the brand-new Steve Jobs Theater, during which the company is widely expected to unveil its new iPhones, a new 4K Apple TV, and a new LTE-enabled Apple Watch.
