iPhone 14 May Include 2TB Storage Option, Claims Rumour

According to a report from Chinese website MyDrivers, Apple may end up beating its own record for “the most expensive iPhone ever” (the 1TB iPhone 13 Pro Max at $2,229 CAD) just one year after setting it, with a massive 2TB option for the iPhone 14 (via MacRumors).

Take this rumour with a huge grain of salt, though — the Chinese speculation-base it comes from isn’t really known for being awfully reliable.

The need for a 1TB option on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max came with major improvements to the camera system and associated features, including ProRes video (support for which is due later this year) and 4K 60FPS recording, both of which are documented storage-hogs. In fact, ProRes video is so lofty the feature won’t even be available on 128GB models.

The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, with their ‘Pro’ camera systems, are being marketed as the best tools for photography, videography, and cinematography. That being so, the 1TB configuration is clearly geared towards professionals and not the iPhone maker’s more casual customers.

While camera improvements are expected of every new iPhone, the iPhone 14 series is expected to focus more on an extensive aesthetic redesign (read: getting rid of the dreaded notch).

With a bump in camera technology or features (once ProRes video rolls out, there isn’t really much Apple can or should do about video quality for the next year or two) being on the back-burner for the next generation, the need for 2TB of internal storage on next year’s iPhones is questionable at best.

While the iPhone 14 is a little less than a year away, it has already become a regular at the rumour mill. Apple is expected to launch 6.1″ and 6.7″ models for the base iPhone 14 series (eliminating the 4.5″ “mini” form factor), a 6.1″ iPhone 14 Pro, and a 6.7″ iPhone 14 Pro Max, with 120Hz ProMotion displays all around. We’ve also already seen our first concept for next year’s iPhones.
