iPhone Class Action in Canada: Where’s Your Payout from Apple?

The Canadian iPhone Power Management Class Action Settlement was approved by the courts back in March of 2024, and many of you have wondered what the status of payouts are.

Owners of iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, or 7 Plus models may qualify for compensation if they installed certain iOS updates prior to December 21, 2017.

What’s at stake? The lawsuit claimed that Apple’s software updates caused these iPhones to “prematurely age, degrade, and shut down unexpectedly.” While Apple denies the allegations, the company agreed to a settlement of $11.1 to $14.4 million CAD, mirroring a similar case down south. Lawsuits against Apple were filed in B.C., Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

Back in October of last fall, the iPhone class action in Canada reached its validation stage. Some claimants were asked to complete the process, with some emails marked as “spam” as we told you.

So what’s the update for this class action in January 2025? The settlement’s last update on its website was made in October 2024, so many have been wondering what’s the current situation at.

iPhone in Canada has received an update from the iPhone Power Management Class Action Settlement after reaching out. We were told the claims processing phase is “still underway” and that payments for valid claims are scheduled to go out once all claims have been processed. Info about the payment schedule will be made “available shortly”, said an agent.

So there you have it. Claimants are being told to refer to the class action lawsuit’s website for ongoing updates. Payouts will be based on how many people filed claims.

Canadians continue to get paid from class action lawsuits against big tech firms. Recently, we told you about Meta (Facebook) paying out Canadians through Interac e-Transfers from MNP, which are still rolling out.
