Rogers and Bell Scam Twist: It’s Not Just a Phone Call Anymore

Bell rogers scam.

More warnings are coming your way from police in Ontario about scammers, this time involving people pretending to be from Bell or Rogers.

Guelph Police in Ontario are warning the public about a scam involving people pretending to work for Bell or Rogers, offering fake service promos to trick residents into giving up personal information.

Unlike typical scams, some victims say they received both a phone call and an in-person visit. The scammers claim to offer discounts or better rates and try to appear legitimate, even offering to help set up services in person, said Guelph Police on Friday.

After these interactions, victims often discover that their real Rogers or Bell account information has been changed, and their personal details have been compromised.

Police say one suspect has been described as a man in his 30s, brown-skinned, cleanly dressed, with a slight East Indian accent. He was reportedly carrying a notebook and driving a white four-door sedan.

Anyone with information or who has experienced a similar situation is asked to contact Guelph Police at 519-824-1212 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by phone or online.

Earlier this week, police in Toronto warned people about a phone scam in the GTA, where fraudsters would post as bank investigators to milk money from seniors ands more. At this point, never answer the phone and if someone is calling claiming they are from your bank or telecom, hang up and call the company back yourself to verify. The same goes if someone looking like a telecom worker is knocking on your door. Just don’t bother speaking to them.

Seriously? "East Indian accent"? What are we, in the 80's? You know if he's from Eastern India? If not – it's just "Indian accent". JFC.

No, we are not in the 80s, we're living in the 1930s.

Time to ban Indian immigrants; these people are far too often all low trust and greedy scammers to the core. They are ruining Canada in real time, they scam licences and driver training, then kill innocents (TELL ME I AM WRONG!!!). They leave India because their own country has already been destroyed, tell me I am wrong about the horrible air pollution, endless violent ethnic wars, endless government and business corruption, their "normalized" stupid scamming and lying to get ahead because honest people are weak eithic, their caste system, the defacating and peeing in the streets, this idea they are too good to pick up after themselves, the TOLERATED rape problem, etc.

NO THANKS TO MORE "brown-skinned" people with "indian accents", please and thanks.

I have been hurt by Indians already, way too much; I avoid them now to protect myself.

That country is a blight on humanity right now.

Your statements are xenophobic and ridiculous.

There are specific people that are causing problems, yes. We should deal with those specific people appropriately by screening for them before they are allowed to enter the country and they should be subject to due process if the break laws while in Canada.

It is absurd to say that everyone from India is a problem. In addition to the troublemakers, you are also placing blame on people that followed the official process, have never broken a law, and are being productive members of our society. The way you have chosen to do so is hate speech, which is not in fact something that is allowed in Canada.

You are replying to a bot, dumbass. If you haven't noticed, bots are now coming to this site. Which I suppose is impressive that they know the site exists.

We've all been hurt by someone. Being cautious after a bad experience is fine but assuming everyone from a particular ethnic group is a bad apple, is bigotry. There are many self described "heritage Canadians" who are being well served by East Asia origin medical professionals, in under served areas of Canada.

You're an ignorant, racist scumbag. You're not Canadian – you're a traitor and you don't belong in this country. GET OUT.

That's a completely useless racist statement my friend. Half the scammers calling you are actually in some other country and has zero to do with immigrants. ffs stopping spreading unhelpful lies. Scammers come in all colors and I myself had one using a scamming service linked to the United States. Stop falsely assuming something you have no idea about.

As if police care…they warn us about an issue, but my phone gets at least five scam calls a day. Hey police, if people on YouTube can ID a person and tell them the address they are calling from by using a computer, should not our police service be able to do the same and shut it down? And if they are calling from India should our politicians put pressure on India's officials to shut it down on their end?

Russell Peters loves to say that Indians are just like the Chinese, but let’s be real—when it comes to hitting new lows like scams and selling, k****g daughters, they’re not even in the same league.
